The following is a News Report from the United Colonial Effort
Climate Crisis at Barnard’s Star
It has been long accepted that the situation at Barnard’s Star is at the point of no-return. Many say it is the lack of Beariliumite in this system that led the FSR to over-mine all other resources – such as osmium and technetium – with such reckless disregard for the eco-damage being done. Yes, these resources are vital for supporting specialized applications in medical and industrial fields, but can the value of these rare resources truly be equal to the environmental cost being inflicted on the future of these planets?
With this in mind, it is no surprise that the opening of a new perovskite mine on Barnard D has resulted in destructive protest. Although no faction has come forward to admit responsibility, it is generally believed that the Stellar Alliance for Progress are financing these hostile protests. Sabotage of machinery, harassment and intimidation of the mine’s employees at their family homes, as well as outright attack on supply chains by unclaimed PMCs, are but some of the activism currently taking place. When asked to comment on these accusations, an SAP spokesperson replied: “The FSR doesn’t need us or anyone else to help destabilize their operations. They have their own quarrelling committees to do that. And besides, whatever damage being done to their mines is nothing compared to the damage already inflicted upon these planets, so maybe this is simply the solar system fighting back.”
Naturally, after such inflammatory remarks, an SGA investigation has been now launched into the nature of these protests, as well as an IBS audit into where exactly SAP government funding is being spent. When the FSR was asked for a reply to the SAP’s alleged attacks, no official comment was made available. However, it is clear that the Federate Sovereign Republics have since mobilised a large body of armed troops, ready to deploy in defence of their mines, and their decisions, at all costs, once again digging in, if you can forgive the pun.
If you ask this reporter, the solution to these issues is not attack like the SAP, or defence like the FSR, but change. To change the use of these rare resources into developing more efficient ways to use them, to create an industry of energy that supports and strengthens the environment instead of destroying it. This is exactly the long-term vision of the United Colonial Effort, and if we at the UCE had access to even half the resources that the FSR lay claim to here in this system, it would be safe to say that under the UCE, Barnard’s Star would be a much brighter space.
